I love sharing whatever little I know, and I would be very happy to teach you!
I primarily teach tabla, but I have a few sitar students as well.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching kids. But age is just a number. I have had students aged 6 to 55.

I also conduct workshops and training sessions focused on the rhythm part of Indian classical music, including Konnakol — the Carnatic way of looking at rhythm.

Tabla Background

I started my tabla journey when I was 6 years old — with Sanjay Karandikar — a well-known and excellent tabla teacher and music educator from Pune. A decade later, I started learning from his teacher Pandit Ramdas Palsule. After a few years of rigorous training, I started performing regularly in concerts with vocalists and instrumentalists.

More recently, I’ve had the great privilege of learning from Ustad Zakir Hussain — the greatest tabla player of all time.

After moving to Stockholm, I’ve collaborated with musicians from many different traditions — jazz, Swedish folk, Greek music, and bluegrass, to name a few.

Sitar Background

My mother — Urmila Apte — is an excellent Maihar Gharana sitar player. Though sitar is my secondary instrument, I continue to take lessons from her and try to practice as much as time allows. After moving to Stockholm, I’ve also been taking lessons from KG Westman — one of the best sitar players in Europe.

Format & availability

I’m based in Skarpnäck in Stockholm, Sweden. I mostly teach one-to-one in person. But I do have a few students who learn online. I have a 9-to-5 engineering job so I mostly teach on weekday evenings and weekends. Cadence depends on you and how much you practice! Most people come once a week. But some senior students come 2 or 3 times a week.
